Mayo Hardware embraces the principle of sustainability as a whole system rather than a series of single elements. We believe in the development and growth of our business in ways that do not compromise the welfare of future generations.
We are committed to conducting our operations in a manner which reduces environmental risk and adverse effects on our people, our product, and our planet in which we operate. We acknowledge the need to incorporate sound sustainable sound into our core business strategies, plans and processes. As a business we have made the long-term commitment to update our behaviours and practices to ensure we can move forward towards this goal.
In developing our Sustainability Plan we have acknowledged the work being done by the United Nations to encourage governments and businesses to increase their sustainable practices by the year 2030. They have developed, in conjunction with these parties, 17 Sustainable Development Goals that target critical areas that we as a planet need to address. As a business we have looked at the way we conduct ourselves and targeted several of these goals as priorities, linking to our 3 core goals in our sustainability plan.
Initiatives
Moorebank Office Upgrade
Our head office facility is undergoing upgrades to assist in reducing our daily office carbon footprint further by introducing solar panels, and upgrading our lightening to LEDs throughout the building.
To continue our commitment to the good health and well-being of our employees we are also creating a community gathering and wellness area, to promote team building. The outdoor garden will provide a relaxing “break out” area for staff to take time during the day to re-charge, and a vegetable garden to encourage healthy eating and enable onsite composting.
Charity
As part of our commitment towards sustainability, the environment and community based activities, Mayo Hardware each year selects a charity to actively support. We pro-actively hold events and activities to raise funds for this organisation who assist those less fortunate or undergoing hard times.
This year Mayo Hardware is raising funds for Heart Foundation for Australia and New Zealand. The Heart Foundation saves lives and improves health through funding world-class cardiovascular research, guidelines for health professionals, and informing the community about living a heart-healthy lifestyle.
In addition to our fund raising, we supply products and services to organisations that pro-actively help others less fortunate in the community.
Reducing Waste
Mayo Hardware is a signatory to the voluntary National Packaging Covenant, which aims to minimise the environmental impacts arising from the disposal of used packaging, conserve resources through better design and production processes and facilitate the re-use and recycling of used packaging materials. We are proactively reducing waste to landfill by reviewing our packaging design and materials continuously.
